Suppliers Day 2010
We hosted a Suppliers’ Day on the 5th August 2010, which provided information on future investment work and how suppliers’ could bid for work.
Over the next five years, we will be spending over £180 within Sefton. Businesses of all sizes were invited to an event at Aintree Racecourse where they were given information of future procurements including building work, electrical installations and demolition works as well as major regeneration and investment projects.
The event was an opportunity to advise potential bidders on future procurements and the expectations that OVH has of its suppliers.
Part of these expectations focussed around locality. One Vision Housing Head of Property Management Phil Woodhead said: “We are looking at providers who can tap into the local employment market and be a benefit to the local and wider community. We want to invest in the neighbourhoods that our customers live in and that includes those businesses."
Mark Wynne from Hugh Baird College and Peter Walsh from North West Training Council also delivered presentations on local apprenticeship schemes and how they can benefit the employer as well as the apprentice. They also told the delegates there were many apprentices' ready now' who were looking for suitable placements.
In October 2009, OVH hosted an event at Aintree that addressed Equality and Diversity in the construction industry and was attended by some of Merseyside’s major landlords and contractors.
OVH Operational Director of Assets and Investment, Gordon Ronald, spoke again about the issue of Equality and Diversity and encouraged practical examples when suppliers submitted their bids. He said: “We want whoever we work with to demonstrate a commitment to the local community and provide employment opportunities and placements for underrepresented groups and young people within their company.”
