Asbestos
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was used in a range of building materials in the UK between the 1930s and 1980s to make them more rigid and fire resistant.
Where might I come across asbestos in my home?
Some areas in your home where you may find asbestos include:
- Leaves, gutters and rainwater fall
- Pipes
- Air bricks
- Boilers
- Cold water tanks
- Pipe lagging and duct linings
- Fire blankets
- Fire surrounds
- Garage and shed roofs
- Linings for walls, ceilings and doors
- Insulation panels in some storage
- Heaters
- Bath panels
- Central heating flues
- Loose asbestos packing between
- Floors and in partition walls
- Floor tiles.
What is One Vision Housing doing about asbestos in their properties?
We have developed an Asbestos Management Plan and Policy which sets out exactly how we intend to identify and manage asbestos in all of our properties.
We will survey all properties prior to commencing any work to identify the locations of any materials suspected to contain asbestos.
All asbestos containing material that is in a good condition will stay where it is and its condition will be reviewed from time to time.
If the material is damaged, we will take measures to repair, seal or remove it immediately in high-risk situations or as part of a maintenance programme if the risk is low.
We will ensure that any such work is done by specialist licensed contractors, who work to strict safety standards.
You will be kept informed of actions in relation to our Asbestos Management Plan and Policy.
