New home for Southport sparrows
One Vision Housing are renovating the old Fog Bell building on Marshside Road where it will eventually form the focal point for a series of nature walks being planned by the RSPB as part of a project with Sefton Leisure Services, to link the community to the coast.
OVH will be painting and repairing brickwork and woodwork. This renovation work will disturb the colony of house sparrows which presently inhabit the bricked up building. In order to provide alternative roosting and nesting sites, members of Stanley High Sports College Technology Club have constructed bird boxes which they erected in the surrounding area with the help of OVH, North Meols Civic Society and the RSPB.
Further information about the walks and the Fog Bell restoration will be given at a meeting which will be held in the near future by the North Meols Civic Society, to which the public will be invited.
