Don't be a victim of burglary
Merseyside Police is issuing advice to local residents in Sefton to keep their homes safe.
Some residents have been leaving their homes insecure recently, particularly front doors. Police are warning residents that burglars will take advantage of the smallest opportunity - an unlocked door can be an open invitation to a thief.
To reduce your risk of burglary, follow this simple advice and it could prevent you becoming a victim of burglary:
• Always close and lock windows and doors
• For UPVC or multi-point locking doors always push up the door handle and then turn the key to secure it. Just closing a door isn’t enough
• If you are in the garden or near your house, keep your windows and doors closed - a thief can get through the smallest window
• Don't leave car or house keys within sight of the letterbox or a window
• Secure your shed and garage. Don't leave tools lying around
• Security mark all your home and garden equipment with full postcode using a UV marker pen or permanent marker.
Constable Kevin Kehoe, Sefton’s Crime Reduction Officer commented: “Half of all domestic burglaries have no forced entry, and the burglar simply walks in through an unlocked door or climbs through an open window. It only takes a few minutes for burglars to get into your home and steal your belongings and they will look for easy targets, don’t let it be you.”
