See to bee-lieve!
The Ford Lane Urban Garden enjoyed its official launch in June, complete with cooking demonstrations, a barbeque and a lesson in how to handle bees...
Head Gardener Pete McFaddyn has been busy using funding from One Vision Housing’s Community Development Fund to transform land that was previously unkempt into a produce paradise.
At the moment, all manner of weird and wonderful things are growing and soon, the local community will be able to purchase the fruit and veg.
As well as the free barbeque and cookery, there were also lessons in how to make soaps, lip balms and creams using plants growing in the garden. Pete also used funding to purchase bee hives and local school children have been trained on how to handle the bees They gave a demonstration and impressed the crowds with their new (and rather unique skills).
Said Pete: "It’s my aim to have fresh fruit and vegetables available every week of the year. I’d urge anyone with an interest in the garden, to come down and pay us a visit.”
