Something fishy going on
15 young people have fallen hook, line and sinker for a pastime usually associated with an older generation.
Our Community Development Team have been working with Sefton Park Rangers to roll out a fishing project young people from One Vision Housing neighbourhoods.
Fishing is known to be a therapeutic and calming hobby having a calming effect on dysfunctional behaviour – perfect for engaging a group of young people.
Although the youngsters initially looked as though they had opened a can of worms, by the end of the first session, they no longer looked liked fish out of water.
Youth Engagement Officer Marie Morgan said: “Engaging young people in a positive way by improving their motivation and inspiring them to get out of bed has given them a sense of pride and achievement. They all had a fantastic time fishing and some even caught something!”
One Vision Housing are looking at running the project on a monthly basis with the support of Sefton Park Rangers. If any young people are interested please contact Marie Morgan on 0300 365 1111.
