One Vision Housing Supports Children in Need

On Friday, November 16th One Vision Housing will be supporting the BBC Children in Need Appeal. Some staff will be wearing fancy dress, casual dress and numerous fundraising activities will be taking place. 

About Children in Need

The BBC Children in Need charity aims to positively change the lives of disadvantaged children in the UK.

In 2006 the BBC Children in Need Appeal raised over £33 million. The charity provides support in the form of grants to organisations
working with children who may have experienced mental, physical or sensory disabilities; behavioural or psychological disorders; are living in poverty or situations of deprivation; or suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.

History

The BBC's first broadcast appeal was a five minute radio programme on Christmas Day in 1927. It raised £1,143 18s 3d and the proceeds were shared with four prominent children's charities.

The first televised appeal was on Christmas Day 1955 presented by Sooty and Harry Corbett. The  Christmas Day Appeals continued until 1979 raising a total of £625,836.

In 1980 the appeal was broadcast on BBC 0ne in a new telethon format, hosted by Terry Wogan, Sue Lawley and Esther Rantzen. It raised over £1 million for the first time.  Further information
