School Pupils Help To Spread The Safety First Message Across Sefton

Youngsters in Sefton are being warned to stay away from the dangers of building sites courtesy of a poster designed by a talented local school pupil.

Safety conscious Nicola Bentham (11) will see her eye catching poster warning about the hazards of playing near building sites enlarged and positioned on scaffolding across Sefton as major improvement works continue to One Vision Housing properties in the area.

Nicola designed the poster at the culmination of a Building Site Safety event hosted by Connaught Partnerships Limited to advise pupils at Grange Primary School, Stonyfield, to stay well away from building sites while Decent Homes improvement works are ongoing in the area.

The event began with the Connaught site team based in Sefton showing pupils a film highlighting the dangers of playing on building sites before Ivor Goodsite, mascot of the Considerate Constructors scheme, made a surprise visit to demonstrate the type of safety clothing that must be worn on an active site at all times.

A Question and Answer session concluded the event before the pupils were challenged to design their own safety advice posters, with the winning entry announced by Roy Williams, One Vision Housing Chief Executive, in a ceremony at the school.

One Vision Housing Chief Executive Roy Williams said: "It is absolutely fantastic that we can bring the keep safe message to children across Sefton in such a fun and involving way.

"I would like to congratulate all those children who took part and particularly Nicola for her fantastic winning entry."

Sue Nixon, Connaught Customer Service Manager, said: " The event itself received an excellent response and the children have really taken the messages on board. It was incredibly tough to choose a winning design but Nicola produced an outstanding entry and she can be very proud to know that her poster will help ensure other children stay safe near building sites."
