Safety First for One Vision Housing

Following a recent incident involving a faulty hot water system the Health and Safety Executive has issued some safety  guidelines to avoid  possible injury from domestic hot water systems. We would like to reassure customers that Incidents of this nature are extremely rare and One Vision Housing will investigate any faults of this kind.

To ensure customer safety One Vision Housing's Gas servicing contractors are currently carrying out checks on the thermostats on central heating systems. They are also checking feed and expansion tanks and associated pipework for any signs of distress.

Problems  can occur as a result of defective cylinder thermostats that fail to cut off the immersion heater after the water has reached the correct temperature.

If your water is heated by an immersion heater that is more than 10 years old please be aware of:

  • Excessive noise from the hot water cylinder (loud gurgling and hissing like a kettle boiling after the immersion heater has been on for some time)
  • Unusual excessive heat from the cylinder (airing) cupboard
  • Hot water coming out of cold taps in the bathroom, or toilet when flushed
  • Steam moisture in the roof space.

If you suspect a problem please take the following precautions:

  • Switch the immersion heater off immediately (white switch, normally located in, or close to the cylinder cupboard)
  • Run cold taps in the bathroom and flush your toilet (this will replace water in the storage tank in the loft with fresh cold water
  • Report this to our Customer Service Centre on:   0845 140 1234

One Vision Housing has advised their Gas Servicing and Decent Homes contractors to check for any warning signs when undertaking repairs.

Further information is available from the Health and Safety Executive.
