One Vision Housing is helping people with literacy difficulties to access information on its website, with the introduction of new Browsealoud software.
Browsealoud from Texthelp Systems, can help people with dyslexia, literacy difficulties, visual impairments or anyone who finds it difficult to read online by reading text aloud.
The reader simply downloads the software from the OVH site free of charge. Once installed the user can then highlight any area of text on any site which displays the Browsealoud logo, which will then be read aloud clearly and slowly to ensure it can be easily understood.
The technology will also help individuals for whom English is their second language to access website information.
Roy Williams, Chief Executive of One Vision Housing said: “For individuals with literacy problems accessing services via websites can be a very daunting and difficult process.
“With the introduction of this new facility on our website a greater percentage of customers will now be able to access useful information from the One Vision Housing website with ease.
“As a business One Vision Housing is committed to ensuring we provide equal access to our services and the use of this innovative tool is a clear indication of our commitment to equality and diversity.”
Once downloaded, users can listen to all websites on the internet that are Browsealoud – friendly. The software has a text highlighting feature to make the text more visible for those with visual impairments and it can read whole pages of text continuously.
