Equality and Diversity is central to making our business stronger, more resilient and more sustainable.

In addition to promoting equality and diversity in all our activities, we are also committed to developing an organisational culture that values people from all sections of the community and the contribution each individual can make to our work.

Service Delivery

  • We will promote equality and diversity in the delivery of services, in the letting of our homes and the involvement of service users
  • We will make all of our services available and accessible
  • We will provide practical and responsive support for any of our tenants suffering from discrimination or harassment
  • We will tackle hate crime and discriminatory anti social behaviour firmly and fairly
  • Our employment practices also extend to the performance of our suppliers, contractors and consultants

Employment

We also recognise that the promotion of equality in the workplace makes our staff more effective and widens the pool of talent available to us. By encouraging diversity, we can become more innovative and more responsive to the needs of our customers.

Race Equality Action Plan

OVH has published its first Race Equality Action Plan. This covers the period 2008-2009 and focuses on achieving race equality through six key areas of our business:

:-Corporate strategy, commitment and governance
:-Service delivery and customer care
:-Staff recruitment, selection, retention and training
:-Resident and community involvement
:-Contractors, consultants and procurement
:-Working with partners

It sets out our commitment to promoting race equality and tackling discrimination in all our activities.

We are committed to ensuring that:

:-People from all ethnic groups have equal access to our services and decision-making processes, and that black and minority ethnic     (BME) communities are equally satisfied with the quality of services they receive.
:-Our staff profile reflects the communities we work in, with BME staff fairly represented at all levels.
:-OVH is led by a board that fairly represents the communities we work in and who act as true leaders in promoting race equality.
:-Any contractor, consultant or partner working with OVH delivers its business to residents in a way that promotes race equality.

This action plan forms part of our equality and diversity policy and strategy and underpins our wider equality and diversity action plan to maximise the potential positive impact on race equality.  Race Equality Action Plan 2008-2009
