Resident Groups - Questions and Answers

Is there a group in my area?

Here are a list of Residents Groups that One Vision Housing supports. If you would like to find out more about a group in your area, you should contact the group's Resident Involvement Officer.

Why set up a group?

Residents start up residents groups for lots of different reasons, for example tackling common problems like Anti Social Behaviour to organising day trips for Sheltered Scheme residents. Whatever you want to achieve within your community, by setting up a group and taking some simple steps, One Vision Housing will support you.

What are the benefits of setting up a group?

  • You will have the full support of a Resident Involvement Officer, who will attend your meetings until you are fully up and running. They'll help you with the paperwork and provide you with appropriate training.
  • By setting up a recognised group, you will be eligible for a start up grant of £150 and may be eligible to bid for external funding for day trips, equipment or whatever else you can think of.
  • You'll be able to attend viewings (along with a Home Search Officer) viewings of properties in your area to vet possible neighbours.
  • You can go on estate walkabouts in your area with your neighbourhood Officer, to resolve any problems e.g. fly tipping.

There is not a group in my area, but I am interested in starting one up, where do I start?

You should contact our Resident Involvement Team, who will arrange a meeting with you to talk you through the process. If you are interested in setting up a group, you will be assigned to a Resident Involvement Officer who will help you recruit committee members, to find a place to meet, and come up with simple rules (called a Constitution) which the group will have to follow. We will supply you with training on committee skills and will help you overcome any problems you may have and resolve any local issues you may have.

I've tried to set up a group before, but no one in my area seems interested, is there anything else I can do?

You should contact the Resident Involvement Team, who are always willing to help you. You could be an 'estate champion' - telling us if there are any problems in your area and feeding back to residents in your area and attend our Tenants Seminars.
