Explaining Decent Homes
The government has asked all housing associations in England to achieve the Decent Homes Standard by 2010.
Under this new standard, a decent home is one that is wind and weather - tight, economical to keep warm and has reasonably modern facilities.
We are positive about implementing the Decent Homes Standard and to make sure that we achieve this we launched a £200m investment programme in April 2007 that will see us carry out the following improvements:
- uPVC double glazed windows and doors installed in over 5,000 homes
- Modern kitchens fitted to 7,000 homes
- Modern bathrooms fitted to more than 6,500 homes
- Rewiring and hard wired smoke alarms installed in 6,000 homes
- New roofing and loft insulation where required
We have been working closely with groups of tenants to prioritise this work and have to put it into a detailed programme - and you can view this by clicking on the 'Work to your home' page here.
