Tenancy Support
What is Tenancy Support?
We want to make sure that all of our tenants enjoy living in their homes, however some people find it difficult to manage their tenancy for a number of reasons. This could be because they are first time tenants and struggling to cope.
That's why we have introduced a Tenancy Support Service. We can help new One Vision Housing tenants and current tenants who are finding it hard to manage in their homes and can help tenants to gain new skills and become more independent.
Issues such as health problems, debt , drug and alcohol dependencies, mental health issues, or even difficulties in completing standard forms all effect how a person can manage a tenancy.
How can we help?
Our Tenacy Support Officer will give help and advice so applicant tenants can meet the conditions of their tenancy agreement and live independently. We can also offer su[pport in tenants' own homes to ensure that they do not feel isolated and unable to cope with problems they may be facing.
We can help in a number of ways:
- By accessing other organisations and service providers
- Help you to furnish your home or providing starter packs
- Help improve personal safety and security of your home
- Provide help in contacting the utility services ie: gas, electricity and water
- We can find out if you are getting the right benefits
- We can help you apply for adaptions
- We can access support services to help you to develop your life skills; to manage your money, budgeting skills, skills in shopping, menu planning, cooking, literacy and numeracy
How tenancy support is delivered?
- At the first visit the Tenancy Support Officer will discuss with you what support you need to maintain your tenancy.
- We will discuss what you want to achieve and what can be done to help you achieve these goals
- This is all recorded on a support plan and you will be given a copy to keep
- The Tenancy Support Officer will either provide the support themselves or put you in touch with someone who can help
- Sometimes we will need to contact other agencies or organisations on your behalf for which we will obtain your permission
How do we identify if you have needs?
When need has been identified for tenancy support or you have asked us for help we will:
Within 5 working days of receiving the referral for Tenancy Support we will arrange an appointment
- Priority is given to new tenants who are at risk of losing their tenancy if they do not receive immediate support
- Remaining referrals will be put on a list and dealt with in date order of when the request for support is made.
